Regional Director, Florida SBDC at USF, Polk County

Carl Hadden is the Regional Director for the Florida SBDC at University of South Florida. Hadden leads a staff of 20 who serve the 10-county Tampa Bay region. He is also a marketing specialist with experience in workforce development, sales, insurance, entrepreneurship and training.

As general manager for a wireless phone retailer, Hadden directed the marketing, co-op advertising, purchasing, vendor relations, and human resources. He assisted in implementing a point of sales system for the wireless retailer to automate processes and minimize loss prevention. As a workforce professional, Hadden assisted McGee Auto Service & Tires to secure a partnership with the Polk County School District, which would allow mechanics to get additional training and resources to become ASE certified.

Yanina Rosario is an associate director and business consultant for the Florida SBDC at USF. Rosario provides business owners with one-on-one expertise for optimizing business performance through marketing, strategic business planning, and business certification. She also teaches the Women/Minority/Disabled Veteran-Owned Certification seminar.

As associate director for the center, Rosario is responsible for outreach. This involves educating the community, establishing strategic partnerships and working on special projects.

Rosario’s expertise comes from more than 23 years in economic development, guiding pre-venture and well-established business owners through procurement, licensing, planning, marketing and financing. She’s helped clients secure more than $5.5 million in small business loans.

Stacey Dadd started with the Florida SBDC at University of South Florida as the Marketing and Communications Officer in August 2013. She is now an associate director, charged with leading a team in the 10-county Tampa Bay region. She has more than 20 years of experience in the journalism, media and marketing industries.

Dadd built her career in print, visual and audio communications. As a corporate recruiter for News Media Corporation, she was responsible for hiring, troubleshooting and headhunting for 54 newspapers in nine states. She previously owned her own marketing company in Michigan.

Pablo Arroyo has nearly 20 years of experience in business development as an owner and business consultant in the public and private sectors.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science, concentrating on international agriculture and agriculture economics, from the University of Missouri, and an MBA from the University of South Florida in marketing and international business.

Bill Burnham is a lifelong resident of the Tampa Bay area. He is a graduate of the University of South Florida where he majored in accounting. He obtained his MBA from Florida Institute of Technology. Burnham has more than 25 years of experience working with Fortune 500 companies, nearly 20 of those years in management positions. During that time he managed more than 200 employees and spent time in accounting, finance, manufacturing, production control and strategic planning.

He managed government contract budgets in excess of $50 million dollars and operating budgets of more than $25 million dollars. He prepared analysis for potential acquisitions, proposals for government contracts and conducted company-wide training programs on several different topics.

As an international trade specialist at the Florida SBDC at University of South Florida, Selma Canas is responsible for guiding small businesses through the complexities of the international trade process through one-on-one consulting, training and resources.

Canas is a NASBITE International Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) and teaches courses on international trade basics and market research at the Florida SBDC at USF. For export-ready companies, she develops Export Marketing Plans in partnership with SelectFlorida. She has developed more than 40 plans during the past eight years and participated in trade missions to Brazil, Chile, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Panama.

Brad Owens grew up in South Carolina, and moved to Florida after graduating with a bachelor’s in business administration and sociology from Presbyterian College. He began his banking career with Barnett Bank where he completed formalized commercial credit training and served as a credit analyst before accepting his first role as a commercial lender. He moved his wife and two kids to Tampa in 1998 to go into the insurance industry selling employer-paid benefits of long-term disability and life insurance. His accomplishments in that industry including selling one of the largest disability and life policies in the state covering the faculty medical doctors and staff of the college of medicine of a state university.
